BOWLING FOR SOUP
Let's Do It For Johnny (Jive)

Here's a case of patience paying off, at least artistically. Bowling For Soup have been
a band since 1994, they've relocated at least twice, and they've kept at it. Now they're
on Jive Records, which ain't no small thing, and they've got one of the best albums of the
year. They power their pop with a wall of guitar and harmony vocals in such a way that
Green Day once showed the potential to do and The Ziggens only do a few times per album
(by choice, because they're into covering a lot of ground). Yup, tell ya what, if I'm
making a 90 minute tape and I've got Bowling For Soup on one side, the only thing that fits
on the other is Chixdiggit. In case you wondered. The songs make you hop on the grill,
singing furiously "you're a bitch, but I love you anyway..." and they even make you care
about Bryan Adams' "Summer Of '69" again because they kick the rust clean off of it.
It's all so high voltage, and yet, unlike so much music of similar energy levels, there's
a positive feeling about it. Even when he's saddled with a bitch, he loves her. He
really does. He doesn't ever want her to go away. And I don't want to beat anyone up at
the end of the CD. I just wanna hear it again. Louder. But dear God, I hate their name!
Why?? WHY???
