BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO
Down Home Live! (Tomorrow Recordings)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

Recorded before an enthusiastic crowd at Lafayette, Louisiana's fabled El Sid O's, Down Home Live! captures Stanley "Buckwheat" Dural and his band at their stompin', shoutin', down home best. From the opening soul revue blast of "Soul Serenade" through the extended bluesy take of Jagger/Richards' "Beast Of Burden" that caps off the set, this is Buckwheat at the top of his game, zydeco as good as it gets and Buckwheat Zydeco like you've never heard them before, unless you've been fortunate enough to join the throng on the floor of a top Louisiana dance spot for one of his legendary holiday homecomings.

Buckwheat asks the musical question "What you gonna do when the zydeco turn it up on you?" This is the CD that will provide the answer. Buy a new pair of shoes to go with it, 'cause you're gonna wear at least one pair out.

Track List:

Soul Serenade (Buck's Intro) * What You Gonna Do? * Hard To Stop * Walking To New Orleans * Trouble * Make A Change * Put It In The Pocket * Out On The Town * Beast Of Burden
