THE GOURDS
Shinebox (Sugar Hill)

The latest from Austin iconoclasts The Gourds fleshes out their 1998 EP gogitchyershinebox with five tracks recorded in 1998 at Amsterdam's legendary emporium of fine music and cannabis by-products, the Milkveg. Those tracks are fine additions to the Gourds canon, but the real news here is the ready availability of the band's cowpunk cover of Snoop Doggy Dogg's "Gin & Juice." Those whose taste runs to glam rock more than hip-hop may prefer their down home version of "Ziggy Stardust," but "Gin & Juice," Gourds-style, is simply the funniest damn thing I've heard since... well, it might just be the funniest damn thing I've ever heard. And there's a bunch of good songs and real fine pickin' to go with it! You just gotta hear this one, and once you do, you're gonna have to own it.

Track List:

Gin & Juice * Everybody's Missing The Sun * Dooley * Ziggy Stardust * Two Girls * Lament * Trampled By The Sun * Maria * Omaha * Jones Oh Jones * I'm Troubled * Plaid Coat
