HOLLY COLE
Baby, It's Cold Outside (Alert)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Every year Holly Cole plays our little town (Ottawa) in what has become a
holiday tradition, and now we have a record to spread the yuletide love a little
more. Filled with classic standards like the classic Mel Torme title track to
"Santa Baby" and "Sleigh Ride," Baby It's Cold Outside also contains a couple of
nice surprises like Mary Margaret O'Hara's "Never No" and Merle Haggard's "If We
Make It Through December." It's a nice, cozy collection perfectly arranged by
longtime collaborator Aaron Davis, who knows how to spotlight Cole's strengths
(sass, camp and delivery).
