? AND THE MYSTERIANS
Feel It! The Very Best Of... (Varese Sarabande)

Reviewed by DJ Johnson

This one comes with two warnings and a recommendation. The first warning is that these aren't the original recordings. They were done a few years ago. The second warning is that this isn't even the first release of these re-recordings. What this actually is is a single-disc version of 2-CD Krispy Kreme/Cave Stomp 1999 release, More Action. That one's out of print now, and this one is missing the instrumental version of "96 Tears," which was actually titled "Strolling With The Mysterians," "Satisfaction," and "Sally Go Round The Roses," though there's a video of that song on the disc. In my opinion, the packaging should be honest about both of these things. "Hey, these are re-recordings and this is a trimmed-down version of a CD from a few years ago" would have done nicely. The recommendation is simply this: you can't get the 1999 release anymore, and these re-recordings rock. On top of that, you get a pair of demo tracks from 1966 and a live track from the band's appearance at Cave Stomp in '98. The thing about Question Mark & The Mysterians is they haven't aged badly at all. It still sounds fairly close to the way it sounded all those years ago, and baby, that's a good, good sound.
