Seeing Karen O., the live wire firecracker, ripping up the Fillmore stage further cements her perch atop the queen of rock pedestal. There may not be a more visceral and exciting trio mangling strings, cymbals and mike stands today. Yeah yeah yeah, no surprise. The surprise comes with a decidedly unflashy short doc from Spike Jones as he blinds concert goers and shoves a mike in their faces before a show. The outpouring of love and dedication usually reserved for grand spectacle dinosaurs like Queen and Kiss is quite refreshing. Seems not only that Karen O. is a quirky she-Ig, exuding animalistic sex stink, but she writes emotionally scarring lyrics the legions take deep to the heart. Who knew? Add a clever little behind the scenes clip from a Japanese concert leg, a snippet from the MTV awards, the videos so far, and we find a DVD where the gold lies within the special features section. Yup yup yup.
