ANDRE WILLIAMS
Black Godfather (In The Red)
Reviewed by John
Sekerka
After a brief stint in country land, Andre Williams returns to his raunchy R&B shtick with
lascivious vengeance. With dirty guitar help from the likes of Jon Spencer, The Dirtbombs and
the Oblivian brothers, Williams lays down hilarious, foul-mouthed spiels like "Whip The Booty"
and "Sling That Thing." The dirty old man of rock'n'roll, Williams comes off like old buddy Redd
Foxx with a bump and grind beat. This retirement-age performer, whose chief preoccupation is
keeping his dentures from flying out during delivery, hearkens back to a long-gone scene. A
scene his young upstart sidemen no doubt vicariously revel in. And you can, too. Never mind all
that pussy talk and just enjoy the show, will ya?
