SQUARE
3 Song CD Demo (self released)

Why am I reviewing a demo? Because it's the first one I've ever sat
completely through, and found myself enjoying. Square were Nebraska's Best
Kept Secret, but recently relocated to Southern California, acquired
management, and supposedly have an EP (by Vegas Records) in the works. It
would be easy to just pass this keyboard-led group off as "Ben Folds Five
Junior," but I can't stand Ben Fold's and his tiresome world-weary view of
the planet, or their excruciating diet-rock/jazz meanderings. Plus the
vocals here are tons better, and the songwriting is quite catchy. This CD-R
just keeps finding itself in my stereo. My only advice is for them to mix
the distorted guitars higher on the last track "Buj." Quite good nonetheless.
