Heavy Metal 2000 (Restless)

Peter Murphy's ominous croon set to a creeping soundscape is a rush. Problem is you gotta wade
through seventeen jacked up heavy mental industrial anthems to get at the first new Bauhaus
track since Bela first bit it. I'm sure the salivating, hyperactive game-boy legions are
thrilled to bits at having a kick-ass soundtrack to their animated dream sequence, especially
with Pantera, Monster Magnet and Insane Clown Posse on board, just don't tell 'em who Billy
Idol is. Though it seems to have grown quite the reputation, the original Heavy Metal was an
animation turd, displaying none of the excitement, the craftsmanship or the innovation, but all of
the sexism of the influential magazine version. Can the sequel be any worse? This soundtrack,
which is anything but innovative or daring, says yes.
