DUDLEY CONNELL & DON RIGSBY
Another Saturday Night (Sugar Hill)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

Whether solo, as a duo, as members The Lonesome River Band and The Seldom Scene, or together in the supergroup Longview, Dudley Connell and Don Rigsby are among the best known performers in bluegrass music. This is a case where familiarity breeds nothing but respect and affection, and this new duo release is a delight.

Covering styles from Everly Brothers country-pop to vintage Dylan folk, with plenty of traditional high lonesome in the mix, this is a great one to share with friends whose view of bluegrass is a bit too limited. It's also a great one to share with friends whose view of bluegrass is comprehensive. For that matter, it's a good one to enjoy all by your lone self. Bottom line, this is a great one.

Connell's guitar and Rigsby's mandolin are complemented by Tim O'Brien on fiddle, Missy Raines on bass and Randy Kohrs on a variety of slides. Recorded at Tom T. Hall's home studio, Hall himself shows up for a recitation and Hall's wife Dixie chipped in a tune, "Let Me Fly Low."
