SEAN WATKINS
Let It Fall (Sugar Hill)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

Anyone who has heard Sean Watkins' work with Nickel Creek needn't be told that the young guitarist is an exceptional talent. On his first solo release, Let It Fall, that talent is expressed in ways that are nearly overwhelming. Accompanied by a rotating cast of outstanding musicians, including a pair of his Nickel Creek bandmates, the nine original songs and the traditional "Over The Waterfall" are arranged to highlight Watkins' fluid flatpicking, and reflect a maturity of taste that matches the brilliance of his instrumental talents.

This is the kind of album that lends too so many superlatives that a reviewer quickly fears losing credibility. Simple fact is, there's nothing wrong with this album. At all. If you like music in the folk and bluegrass traditions, with a contemporary edge, played brilliantly, you're going to listen to this one over and over.
