STEVE FORBERT
Young Guitar Days (Relentless)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

Young Guitar Days collects outtakes from Steve Forbert's first four albums, released between 1978 and 1981, a period that many would consider his creative peak. Whether you prefer the early or the latter day Forbert, though, anyone who appreciates his work at all will find plenty to like about this 20 song set.

The general quality of the songs and performances are such that this material could easily have been released as his fifth and sixth albums, probably to good career advantage. Many of these tunes have found their way into his set lists over the years and have become cult favorites among hardcore Forbert fans.

If, like me, you're one of those people who can only go so long without hearing a bit of Jackrabbit Slim or Little Stevie Orbit, you're going to get a lot of enjoyment from Young Guitar Days.
