SOUNDTRACK
The Visit (Soundtrack) (Concord)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Movie soundtracks are often problematic to review, since so much of the
incidental music included may lose meaning and impact separated from the
dramatic elements it is designed to accompany. Happily, this problem is
slight for this new release from Concord.
First of all, there are several popular and jazz selections from artists
like Joe Williams & the Basie Band, Joe Tex, Sweet Honey In The Rock and
others that range from enjoyable to exceptional listening. When the
"incidental" score appears, much of it is composed and performed by jazz
performers Ramsey Lewis, Wallace Roney and Gene Harris, who render tracks
that are anything but incidental. Even the more conventional elements of
the score reflect a musical cohesiveness that is stronger than most
soundtrack albums.
You might buy this because you love the movie, or want to complete a
collection of one of the featured artists, or simply because you love
soundtrack albums. Whatever reason, you'll find that this one provides much
to enjoy.
