BRUTE
Co-Balt (Widespread/Supercat)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Any time Vic Chesnutt puts ink on paper it is reason to engage. His mastery of yes depression Americana, Southern gothic on the rocks, is repulsively exquisite. The jarring, obsessive nature of his solo catalogue, anything but an inviting howdy-do, easy listen, is presented here in a user friendly format under the Brute guise. Fellow Georgian co-horts Widespread Panic provide full bodied melody in what is essentially a groovy rock album. One for the party. Me, I'm sticking with the bare bones Chesnutt stuff that can best be appreciated in solitary confinement; where pass the bottle has an entirely different meaning.
