MEG LEE CHIN
Junkies and Snakes (Invisible Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
In a perfect world, Meg Lee Chin would write the soundtrack for every comic
book hero turned into a live-action movie character, because her music is
the stuff of comic books: skateboards and skyscrapers, concrete pilings and
the end of the world, all the things that Danny Elfman knows nothing about.
This, her first full-length release (most of these songs appeared on her
previous EP release), comes at you from all different directions sonically,
with layers of computer buzz folded into multiple vocal tracks (in such
crazy stereo!) of bastardized Ginsberg, echoes and screams and feedback and
a whole lot of other disparities that logically should not equal music but
somehow do, and wonderfully so. Oh, can't wait 'til the next Meg record
comes out, and the one after that, and the one after that...
