THE MIGGS
Anyway (Selfish Music)
Reviewed by DJ Johnson
A CD that I'd intended for somebody else to review because it shouldn't be my
cup of tea ended up lodging several of its songs in my head and working its way
into high rotation in my player. Honestly, this straight-ahead "The Boss meets
Petty & The Attractions In a 2000s Setting" stuff just doesn't grab me... usually...
but the wild card is always the songwriter, and this one - vocalist/guitarist Don
Miggs - seems to be writing about me. And you, I think. It feels like things
I think about, presented so fluidly, so easily and naturally while the band is
rocking flat out to drive the point home. In full flight this band is a powerful
rock outfit in the tradition of the best bar bands you've ever seen, but they've
got ideas and they've got changes and tricks, guitar walls and mournful wah wah
calls, harmonies and pretty two-string melodies and the real-life stories of Don
Miggs to set them apart. If you haven't heard of them, that's the music industry's
fault. Fix it.
