When Do We Start Fighting... (Nettwerk America)

Oh, there are just so many things I appreciate about this record! First off, it's laid out beautifully, with the first track pulling the listener into the album immediately with squealing guitars and gorgeous vocals - subsequent tracks lead the listener along by the nose, unable to stop the record to relisten to favorite songs or skip around on the disc without losing something important in the listening. And I like that - I like records that are laid out like novels, where you can't just randomly pick a pop hit out at your leisure, but really have to sit and listen to the album in order to get the full experience. From the high energy of the first tracks, the record slowly slides into slower songs that are so beautifully painful and edgy you (I) just have to get up and get a beer to shake some of the tension, punctuated by bits of unexpected screaming and feedback. Don't ask me what this story is about - it's sad and angry and reflective and redeeming all at once, so I'm thinking it must be about love.
