SILVERCHAIR
Diorama (Atlantic)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Uh-oh. Anytime Van Dyke Parks, he of the crazy Brian Wilson over-orchestral era, appears on a contemporary (say, post 1975) record there is immediate cause for concern. Listen, folks may be tripping all over themselves about this record but alas, they are wrong. Silverchair, if you recall, have sold many records, most of them in their native Australia, with a bizarre boy band version of Nirvana. Now as the lads grow out of their teens they flail at a mature record - resulting in a plush George Martin Beatlesish sound. I believe Sloan are still trying this grunge goes pop routine, but I digress. Yes the little girls will scream, but so will you. Just a warning.
