Sharp Dressed Men: A Tribute To ZZ Top (RCA)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
As bad idears go, this one's right up there with the David Lee Roth / Sammy Hagar tour. Look, ZZ Top were tolerable at best the first time around, but does anybody slap on "Cheap Sunglasses" any more? Right. So why gather a crop of new country stars to cover fuzzy guitar boogie? Two wrongs here, you do the math. If the idea of Brooks and Dunn tackling southern fried r'n'b doesn't make yer stomach queasy then you are a better man than I. Save for the Hank Williams III piece (what the hell is he doing here?), this is just a horrific mess. Not even funny on the unintentional comedy meter. It's enough to make me shave my twenty inch beard.
