Voice this Sound: An Inverse Records Compilation (Inverse Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
This is kind of a cool, depressing little emo compilation, with
contributions from Ultimate Fakebook and a bunch of bands I've never heard
of before (which is the way most of the compilations work - they bring in one
"big" band with a recognizable name so that people will grab the CD off the
shelves with the comfort of knowing that at least one song on the 22-track
CD won't suck). Some of the bands here that I've never heard of before that
are actually quite good are the moody, melodic Subset, the also moody and
melodic Chomsky, and the almost upbeat-sounding (at least compared to
everything else on here) Airplanes are Better. Absolutely mind-numbingly
waste-of-time pretentious and derivative include the tracks contributed by
Cruiserweight, Jump Rope Girls, and Greyline.
