IN THIS ISSUE OF COSMIK DEBRIS:
NEWS FLASH: We've added an article that will be in the August issue because it is time sensitive. If you are a fan of jam band music, or just a believer in the dream of maintaining an idyllic mountain concert area, just such a place exists and is in need of your help. Please read the article called A COSMIK APPEAL: SAVE THE DAY FOR A DAYDREAM. Thank you. As for the July issue: Jazz guitarist John Pizzarelli discusses his career, being the son of Bucky Pizzarelli, the 7-string guitar and playing Birdland; Sebastien Hould of Montreal's great garage band, The Chains, talks about gigging in that town and the prospects of hitting the road now that they have a killer CD on Get Hip Records; A close look at something millions of people are extremely excited about: the 2-disc, five and a half hour Led Zeppelin DVD that addresses the question... were Zeppelin the best live band of all time? Plus reviews of CDs, DVDs, movies, books and other things, and our usual slate of columns from the Cosmik Debris Columnist Party Headquarters. The 4th of July is over, but the Issue of July is just beginning.

Audible Debris COSMIK RADIO!: Brand new Cosmik Radio!! Yep, not only do you get a new episode, you get a new feature as we introduce Rusty Pipes' 15 minute segment, Closet Philosophy Radio. THIS, ya gotta hear!

You just need a RealAudio Player to listen. If you don't have one, go pick one up. Cosmik Radio is just the kind of Net-Only audio that radio station program directors don't want you getting hooked on. So go ahead. Inhale!

SAVE THE DAY FOR A DAYDREAM - Sunshine Daydreams, a wonderful concert and camping site in the mountains of West Virginia where the best jam bands in the world play open air shows, is in a spot of trouble and they need some help. "Jerry's Birthday Bash," August 14th through 17th, is just part of the story. Read all about it.

BUCKY'S BOY BOOKS BIRDLAND - JOHN PIZARELLI, like his father, is a master of the 7-string guitar. With his jazz trio, he explores new territory and constantly looks to expand the jazz audience. In this Cosmik Conversation with Shaun Dale, Pizzarelli lays out his philosophies and explains how he got here.

THE CHAINS - LONDON '63? NO, MONTREAL '03! THE CHAINS ROCK AUTHENTIQUE: DJ Johnson interviews a new Garage Band that doesn't sound like they came out of a garage. They sound like a kick-ass 60s rock band with a little bit of soul. Check them out here, then check them out when Get Hip sends them to a town near you! And get to know a bit about them right here.

FEAST YOUR EYES ON LED ZEPPELIN! - We've been waiting and waiting for this. After all these years of hearing people say Zeppelin were the greatest live band when all we had to go by was the concert film, The Song Remains The Same, Jimmy Page and Warner have finally presented us with five and a half hours of footage on 2 DVDs. DJ Johnson takes a close look and listen.

TIME FOR THE THIRTEEN O'CLOCK NEWS - Duke Bush pulls the trigger again; SARRS 2; Arnie in The Term 1; No-hit Fever in Beantown and more.

CD & RECORD REVIEWS - Stacks and stacks of tasty tracks. Don't have time to sample them all? We'll try to save you some time by giving you the lowdown.

EVERYTHING ELSE IN REVIEW - Movies, DVDs, books, and anything else that isn't a standard CD... you'll find it here.

CLOSET PHILOSOPHY - Rights are what Rusty's on about this month: what we have, what we are losing, what we need to do do get them back again. Jump on the pendulum people, we need to start it swinging the other way again...

COSMIK BLUES - Eric Steiner tells us to Get The Blues (again) and jump in with the Alligators with Dr. Iglauer... Read to see what he means...

PIGSHIT by GARY PIG GOLD - Simply Saucer with Edgar Breau were doing something different from the norm, something that was very big in Toronto in '78. It fizzled out at the time, but there is a re-release Gary tells us about this month that we should all get our hands on!

MEDIA CURMUDGEON - The ubiquitous cell phone is Karl Cable's topic this month. He doesn't have one. He doesn't see why we do. In other words, he's being a curmudgeon.

CREDITS - The names and e-mail addresses of the people responsible for this thing.

COSMIK RADIO - Want an hour of music that fits the personality of Cosmik Debris Magazine? That's right, Sinatra segues into Megadeth into Peter Tosh into Man Or Astro-Man into... well, you get the picture. It's a little something we like to call Genre Whiplash. Or maybe you're in the mood for a trip into The Fog Machine, our mix of music of the ethereal variety. All you need is a RealAudio player. Come on in.

OUR OWN WEBSITES - Many of the Cosmik Debris writers have websites of their own. We have some links right here.

No obituaries this month. We're sorry. People did die, but we were getting really sad around here so we took the month off. No disrespect meant toward anyone who croaked. Honest. We just got overwhelmed with grief and so we said "screw this, let's not do that this month."

The truth of the matter is that the whole obit thing has been bugging me a little. Or a lot, I suppose. When someone I care about dies, I want to say something about it. The nature of Cosmik Debris Magazine is that the staff basically has a free hand to write about what they care about, so if someone they care about dies, they are most likely going to write about that person. Associate Editor Shaun Dale and I discussed this last month, and he laid it out in a very clear way. "The rock generation's reached an age where at least two or three important people are going to die every month, and that's just the way it is." How right he is. So the question is do we cover it, or do we let these passings go unmentioned and the artists' lives uncelebrated?

I figure we'll continue to say goodbye to our beloved musicians, artists, poets and other people of note. Not all of them, but the ones that inspire one of us to pay tribute, time permitting. So if we don't write an obituary for your favorite musician, I apologize on behalf of all of us here at Cosmik Debris Magazine. We simply can't become "Cosmik Mortuary Report." Perhaps we'll eventually have a monthly page that lists significant artists who have passed on, but knowing our writers, I'm guessing a single paragraph won't cover it where matters of the broken heart are concerned.
