CAMAROSMITH
Camarosmith (Dead Teenager)
Reviewed by DJ Johnson
This quintet of hard rockers make no effort to hide their allegiances and influences, as their CD cover, a dead ringer for Black Sabbath's Sabbotage, makes abundantly clear. The time period that informs their rock sensibilities is stamped plainly in their name: Camarosmith. True, Aerosmith's career covers three decades, but when could you say both Aerosmith and the Camaro were kings? The mid 70s. So, are Camarosmith simply retreading old tires? Some would (and do) make that argument, but the truth is their songs don't sound anything like anybody else's songs from that period. Even if the guitar tone on "714" may smack of Sabbath, the song is all Camarosmith's, and it's red hot. They've put together an album's worth of power rockers that will make you want to drive fast and have lots of sex. In other words, an album that truly lets you relive the 70s, even during thoroughly modern metal tunes like "Corrupt." It's the groove, dude, it's the groove. These songs don't necessarily stick with you for long after the CD's turned off, but while it's on the energy rush is undeniable.
