In a very short span Otis Taylor has stormed the blues community with a ghostly music that borrows equally from Delta and Native traditions. The striking balance of sweet/sad, in both word and instrument, is grand indeed. Intricate picking on mandolin, guitar and banjo set up a honey voice from a bear of a man, who also knows how to ride a soulful groove. If you were to try and capture American roots music at its best, you'd do well to start right here.
