RUBBER CITY REBELS
Pierce My Brain (Smog Veil)

Reviewed by Alan Wright

Another class of '77 punk band returns from the dead! The Rubber City Rebels got back together a couple of years ago, and with guitarist Buzz Clic's brother Bob (also in the Lewd) subbing on bass they recorded this fab set of raunchy rock n' roll. In fact, I might go as far as to say this is actually more punk than their original stuff was! Despite the claims in song #3 of "I Don't Wanna Be A Punk No More," this is very punk! The twin axes of Buzz and singer Rod Firestone create a great wall of guitar throughout. Little flashes of metallic playing sneak in here and there, and Rod's vocals are at his snotty best. The title track is hilarious stuff, as are songs like "Punk Daddy" and "Warlord." They also have a great song called "Your Television Lies," a song about Stiv Bators called "Dead Boy" (they were from Cleveland originally), and a rockin' cover of the Music Machine's "Talk Talk." Really swank package design, a cool digipack with lyrics and pics and stuff.
