THE SKRONKTET WEST

Ah the skronk. Inflammatory, impulsive, improvisational beeps and bleeps, usually of the sax variety, practiced by serious jazz dudes pushing envelopes where mere mortals dare not tread, at least not without migraine tablets. Challenging music has its place, and chief reed blower Scott Rosenberg is damn determined to find his. By augmenting the quintet's exploratory oeuvres with lighthearted touches (comedic percussion, deep farts from the contrabass), Rosenberg achieves a rather people friendly version of skronk. John Zorn and Tortoise fans alike will find a place here, where postrock meets avant jazz, and the only clashes are of the cymbal variety.
