THE LOST
Lost Tapes 1965-1966 (Arf! Arf!)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

The Lost were one of a handful of Boston area bands that attracted the attention of the major labels in the mid-sixties, which culminated in the release of three singles for Capitol. They recorded a good deal more than that, though, and this disc collects 18 tracks, most unreleased, some demos, all prime examples of the kind of bar band rock that has continued to inspire garage bands to this day.

As usual, the Arf! Arf! folks have assembled an outstanding package to accompany the music, with archival photos, a band history and comments on the band and the songs from original members, including a track by track description of the songs by guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Ted Myers.

While every Arf! Arf! album I've heard has been at least historically interesting, this one is more musically valuable than most. A treat for fans of the band, the style and/or the label (and I'm all three).
