MARSHALL CRENSHAW
#447 (Razor & Tie)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

Time is running out on Marshall Crenshaw. Having played John Lennon in Beatlemania, and Buddy Holly in La Bamba, you think Marshall could parley that type of juicy exposure into some semblance of chart action, especially since he happens to pen catchy pop tunes. The closest he's come to the big time is with "Someday, Somewhere", the best Buddy Holly tune Buddy didn't write, and that one topped out at #37. Just like every album before, #447 contains an infectious toe-tapping pseudo hit. "T.M.D" brims with sweet harmonies, great hooks, and crystal production - Phil Spector would approve. Problem is that the track is buried deep in the nine spot, and the puzzling acronym (for truly, madly, deeply) assures obscurity for yet another classic pop tune. Tick, tick, tick...
