NATHAN & THE ZYDECO CHA CHAS
Let's Go! (Rounder)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

Although he's a very talented accordionist fronting a very accomplished band, the best thing about Nathan Williams isn't necessarily musical proficiency, but his unbridled spirit. Every track on his latest Rounder release displays a level of unaffected enthusiasm for just making this music that's downright infectious. If this one doesn't turn your crank, well, you're just too cranky.

Williams is either credited for taking zydeco forward, or he's criticized for taking too liberal an approach to the injection of soul, pop and rock elements into the music. Set aside the concerns of the aficionados, though, and you're left with a set of songs that can carry you off into the party zone where such concerns simply don't apply. This is music for people who want to rock, bop and dance till they drop. Sounds good to me. Sound good to you? Well, then, Let's Go!

Track List:

Let's Go * Too Much Wine * Put A Hump In Your Back * Zydeco Rumble * Everything Happens For The Best * Hard Times * Zydeco Is All I Know * Cricket Leg Zydeco * Can't Get Nothin', Sucka * El Sid O's Party * You Don't Love Me No More * Stay Out All Night * Oh Mom * Le Bon Manager
