THE ACTION TIME
Versus The World (Southern)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Rip roaring rawk doesn't usually come outta the UK, so when it does we must
celebrate. The Action Time are good at venting and that always makes for
excellent music. Whether it's the inevitable internal strife (three boys vs
three girls, you do the math), historic strife ("Mods vs. Rockers") or the band
against everyone else (the album title), The Action Time scream it out like they
mean it ... man. They manage a similar ferocity that Mark E. Smith enjoyed with
Brix when The Fall were ruling the universe. A little girl cooing goes a long
way in setting up a growl. All this would be for naught if the damn thing wasn't
listenable, and am happy to report that indeed, there are hooks a plenty here to
keep everyone interested. There may be hope for that poncy island yet.
