Injury Loves Melody (Hollywood)

I have to confess that there aren't very many "alt" bands that grab me, but this one did. They have a gift for vocal harmony and pop construction, I love the power of Tomas Costanza's vocals, and being a sucker for subversive elements within the framework of music, I'm crazy about the strange little things that Anthony Cangelosi counters with on his guitar. In an interview with Guitar Player Magazine, Cangelosi said "Actually, I just add flavor by being as annoying as possible." Yes, but a lot of players out there try the same thing and succeed literally, while Cangelosi succeeds in turning your head and giving you glimpses down dark roads you wouldn't have noticed on your ride through the tune. They have it going, and they're being compared to David Grohl's Foo Fighters -- which I think isn't all that accurate but is good press -- so it'll be interesting to see what they can do for the next act. Having had their song "Karma" used in the Mission Impossible II soundtrack kinda raises the bar, though, don't you think? Poor guys. No matter how well they do, success will be measured against that. Then again, being on Hollywood Records means opportunity knocks a bit more often.
