Steak: Rockin' American Blues from
Guy Forsyth (Antone's Records)

Steak: Rockin American Blues from Guy Forsyth is a baker's dozen from all over the blues map. Forsyth covers a Bo Diddley classic, serves up some original Texas blues and takes us to Chicago, courtesy of Willie Dixon and Otis Rush, and leads us down Lousiana way with Muddy Waters. Forsyth's third record on Antone's is choice, U.S. blues. Throw in Forsyth's strong songwriting, his fluid guitar and harp work, and you get a big slab of traditional American blues on Steak. Forsyth's "Thibodaux Furlough" and "Lovin' Dangerously" take me South to Louisiana, and his cover of Muddy's "Louisiana Blues" simmers just like the King Bee's used to. Otis Rush made his mark with Willie Dixon's "My Love Will Never Die" several decades ago, and Forsyth updates this classic nicely. My favorite is his simmering tribute to Bo Diddley, in the set's opener, "Mona." Get some Steak.
