JENN ADAMS
In the Pool (White Boxer Music)

Reviewed by Eric Steiner

While the women's singer-songwriter bins are a bit crowded, I've discovered a gem from the hills of Stevenson, Montana. She's Jenn Adams, and she's released one of my favorite singer-songwriter records released so far in 2001. The soft picking of "Speed of Light" and the lilting "Joliet" showcase Adams' talented acoustic guitar. Her vocals remind me of long-time Midwestern folksinger Bonnie Koloc and her 90's colleagues Paula Cole or Sarah McLaughlan. I had thought that I didn't need another version of "All Along the Watchtower" but Jenn's duet with Geffen recording artist Malcolm Holcombe convinced me otherwise. In addition to some fine acoustic-driven folk, Jenn also works with a full band on "Not Tonight," buoyed by Steve Conn's B-3 and Kirk "Jelly Roll" Johnson's harmonica. In the Pool may be hard to find, but the search will repay the journey many, many times over. Check out www.jennadams.com.
