Before his death in 1989, Lawrence "Jack Ruby" Lindo produced some of the finest roots reggae in the history of the genre, including seminal tracks like Burning Spear's "Marcus Garvey" and critical cuts by artists ranging from ska veterans Justin Hinds & The Dominoes to Big Youth.
Rasta consciousness and pan-African themes dominate the sounds on the collection Jack Ruby Presents The Black Foundation, which features some of Ruby's more memorable productions and a strong sampling of unreleased cuts from his vaults. The Black Foundation In Dub takes some of the tracks that Ruby produced with his studio stable, including artists like Robbie Shakespeare, Tony Chin, Earl "Chinna" Smith, Aston "Family Man" Barrett, Tommy McCook and Burning Spear, and presents them as re-imagined by dub masters King Tubby and Earl Thompson. These treatments are as deeply conscious as the original tracks, and are outstanding examples of the roots potential of the dub style.
These discs are full of classic material, and essential for students of roots reggae.
