THE BLACK KEYS
Thickfreakness (Fat Possum/Epitaph)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Out of all the white boys wading knee deep in Mississippi mud delta blues, the Black Keys may be the best. Simple set up (guitars and drums), simple tunes (hurt, betrayal, afro-gel) and simple bliss. What's so impressive is how seamlessly Dan Auerbach's originals blend in with the two lone covers. Rubbing shoulders with Junior Kimbrough and Richard Berry ain't no mean feat, and the Black Keys are certainly worthy. Warning: no hooch included.
