DANIEL LANOIS
Shine (Anti/Epitaph)

Not only has Daniel Lanois found a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow (producing U2 - please keep up), but he's found enlightenment as well. Imagine Bono (along for the requisite gust spot) and God in one fell swoop! At least that's what the lyrics suggest: a lot of spiritual healing going on. And though rock is more about sexual healing, there's certainly room for Lanois' delicate, pedal steel tinged folk gospel. Especially fine is long gone Charlie Patton's guitar spot - a nice bit of grave-robbing that. Beautiful, tender, spell binding it be, and hey, Canadians, Lanois is one of our own. Give it up for the homeboy.
