LIAM LYNCH
Fake Songs (S-Curve/EMI)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
It's eerie really, how Liam Lynch transforms into the Icelandic ingenue in "Fake Bjork Song." Almost as good, and much funnier, is "Fake David Bowie Song." The Pixies, Depeche Mode and Talking Heads also get the treatment, and if there weren't a couple of kick ass originals here, I'd have to relegate this slab into the novelty bin. Not that novelty is a bad thing, but Lynch displays a clever prowess for grab-you-pop as he nose thumbs his way through the record. The disenchanted/apathetic American youth anthem, "United States of Whatever" with smarmy Lynch looking much like a young Elvis Costello, herky jerking nowhere fast, could be and should be a giant smash.
