SIMPLETONES
I Have A Date (Re-Force)

Reviewed by Alan Wright

Earlier this year, Re-Force put out s great album of all the Stepmothers stuff, and now here is a CD of all the stuff recorded by the great Simpletones, who also included Jay Lansford of the Stepmothers, CH3, Rik. L. Rik and the Urge fame. You may recall the Simpletones for their lone single "I Like Drugs"/"California," a great slice of L.A. teen pop-punk, or for their contributions to the Rodney On The ROQ and Beach Boulevard compilation LPs. Well, all that stuff is here, plus some previously unreleased stuff collected onto this handy silver disc. And what a slice of great L.A. punk it is! Sure, it's chock full of juvenile lyrics, but how can you not laugh at songs like "I Liken Drugs," "Cardboard Crotch," "Nasty Nazi" and "God Save The Pope." These guys, who had three different lead vocalists, penned extremely catchy pop-punk songs like "TV Love," "I Have A Date" and "Tiger Beat Twist." It's all really fun stuff, and as a bonus you get the fantastic lone single by Snickers' post-Simpletones band the Klan, "Cover Girl" backed with their stripped-down and punked-out take on the Seeds' "Pushin' Too Hard."
