A-FRAMES
Black Forest (Sub Pop)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

Hey, we haven't had such a wonderfully dour record since Joy Division was making recordings of substance. Oh woe is us, and damn doesn't it feel great? A-Frames have the angular-art-rock-post-punk-Brit stance down pat, veering from doom and gloom drudgery to peppy Wire-inspired bursts of spastic pop. And like all clever bands who exploit a good thing when they stumble upon it, A-Frames revisit the title track three times. Too much of a good thing? Never.
