FRANK LENZ
Conquest Slaughter (Velvet Blue Music)
Reviewed by Erick Mertz
You'll want to sit down and counsel Frank Lenz; not for his sound - that will be something you want to thank him for. You might want to pull up a chair along side the addled young man and attempt informed dissection of his woe struck, lamenting self. His album Conquest Slaughter is full of ripe, complex sonic constructions backed with the story of a sad, grown-up boy.
Lenz hasn't exactly crossed the line on any of the ten songs but there is something of a cautioning tale here. Lennon sung "Oh Me" and "Oh Yoko;" he was a master of mixed emotions. If Lenz, a string arranger for the likes of Starflyer 59, is going to break any glass ceilings, it would be advisable he learn the same.
