HASIL ADKINS
The Wild Man (Norton)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

Rock and roll pretty well starts and ends with Hasil Adkins, the original one man band. After taking a decade long break from the biz to concentrate on fixing up cars (and who can blame him), Adkins was coaxed back into the studio to record a proper album from start to finish. The fourteen one-take tracks served notice that The Haze was not only still alive but very much kicking. That was 1987 and only folks with needles and spinning audio tables could partake in the magic, that is until now. The good folks at Norton have finally caved in and released The Wild Man in contemporary CD form, stringing along a 45 and four unreleased tracks to make it worth the wait. Psychobilly classics like "Do The Scalp," "Midnight Moan" and "Punchy Wunchy Wickey Wacky Woo," span the usual Adkins gamut of lust, debauchery and of course, meat. Just in case you've never had the pleasure, this is as good a place as any to go on the Adkins diet.
