MANDO DIAO
Hurricane Bar (Mute)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
You know there's trouble when vocal duties are handled by a couple of gents with the names Bjorn and Gustaf. Especially when the music is jangly Brit-mod pop. Yes, it's those crazy Swedes again, muscling in on yet another bastion of Anglo rock and roll, and by gub, they do it up right. Delicious guitar riffs, dreamy harmonizing and just enough peppy beats to keep the scooter crowd happy. There's a definite move from their punchier debut to a more balanced platter, whilst that means a wider audience, it emphasizes the fact that Mando Diao works best when they're all fired up.
