Interesting Flavours (Chocolate Fireguard)
Reviewed by DJ Johnson
Chocolate Fireguard is an interesting label leaning toward a range of hip hop, groove, and cool electronic-based music with enough acoustic instrumentation to keep it sounding nice and live. Interesting Flavours is an endlessly listenable sampler showcasing their artists and, therefore, the current label sound. It's a diverse offering with an ethereal common thread that keeps it all coherent, from the soulful vocal harmonies of "Little Miss Selfish" by The Bluefoot Project to the funky hip hop of MoodPhase5's "Vital" to the minimalistic looping of Skinny Sumo's "King Kong." The label is new and so far only a handful of these artists have official releases there, but this CD still represents what Chocolate Fireguard is about. It's sixteen tracks of quality music and it's a great introduction to a label you should get to know.
