BAD LIVERS
Blood & Mood (Sugar Hill)

If you like your music neatly categorized, forget Bad Livers. One track
will be bluegrass, one will be hard rock, a few will be punk, there might
be some psych in there, and one day I fully expect a Yiddish love song to
appear on one of their discs. No way to be certain what this Austin, Texas
duo will do or when they'll do it, though there are two things you can
count on: it's gonna be funny and it's gonna be great. Well, there's also
the certainty that whatever genre they pack a song into, they're going to
deconstruct the hell out of it. Take "I'm Losing," for example. Wham-bam
punk guitar, bass, drums and vocals, and then there's a very trad country
pedal steel guitar near the end that just blows your mind. Or would you
prefer a hilarious punk-rap-hillbilly-something-else-too tune called "Fist
Magnet"? We've got variety galore on this menu. At any rate, how can you
resist checking out an album with songs called "The Legend Of Sawdust
Boogers" and "Man vs. Fate - 2 Out Of 3 Falls, Ten Round Limit"? What,
are ya made of stone?! Got no humor in yer soul?
