THE BLUE DAHLIA
A Tribute To Frank Sinatra (Stardust)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

Another sentimental journey from the unlikely tandem team of modern hipster Skip Heller (music) and Athan Maroulis (voice), this Sinatra trib proves that the last record was no joke. In fact, ya gotta wonder if the smooth crooning Maroulis can ever return to his heavy handed industrial past. Selecting the cream of a very long crop, the boys dip their toes into classics like "Night and Day", "I Cover the Waterfront" and of course, "New York New York". Heller brings in a crack ensemble for the session, highlighted by the clarinet of legendary lounge master Robert Drasnin. As tributes go, this is no tongue in cheek variety, offering a traditional bow to the master from adoring kids. Who woulda thought it?
