CHAD & JEREMY
Distant Shores (Sundazed)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

Originally issued in 1966, Distant Shores was something of an artistic breakthrough for Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde. In the rush to get product into the pipeline during the first blush of the British Invasion, they had never been given the time and resources to flesh out their airy pop vocals and orchestrated acoustic arrangements. While the album did not reflect the ambition (or pretension) that the group would show with later albums like Of Cabbages And Kings or The Ark, it does show considerably more refinement than their earlier releases.

This Sundazed reissue is augmented by 13 bonus tracks, eight of which are previously unreleased, making it a great value as well as an excellent musical portrait of one of the more notable acts to arrive on the heels of the Mersey Sound explosion of the sixties. The package includes commentary on the tracks by the artists themselves, adding historical insight and making this a valuable addition to their legacy.
