THE GO-NUTS
DUNK AND COVER (Lookout)
Reviewed by DJ

And they said message rock was dead. It's clearly alive and well, and the message is
"pass the friggin donuts, man!" Snack Rock is the gimmick and always has been, and
every song is about food. The message is that everything tastes better with a little
mayonnaise, they can see the Mona Lisa in their pepperoni pizza, they should bring cheese
to China because the people are too skinny there, and that the object of the singer's
desire can weigh 400 pounds cuz that's just more of her to love. That song, "Chubby
Chaser," comes off a bit cruel, and despite the fact that this is one hell of a power
pop band with tight harmony vocals, the whole joke wears thin after awhile... if you'll
pardon the pun. Even if you won't. Take it in small doses and it kicks up big dust.
The Van Halen parody, "Hot For Twinkies," is funny as hell and actually pretty hot,
even if it does make it clear that Alex Van Halen is one bad ass mofo drummer. So yeah,
this is worth your money, but dole it out in about 5 servings.
