JIMMY THACKERY & THE DRIVERS
Sinner Street (Blind Pig)

Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers' Sinner Street is a blues record that just won't quit. It's high powered, guitar-driven blues by one of the hardest working club bands around. That might sound hackneyed, but Jimmy's been a mainstay of his own band as well as the Nighthawks, one of the Eastern Seaboard's longest-running bar bands that launched a blues revolution more than 25 years ago with Live at the Diner. Last year, Jimmy made my top ten list with David Raitt on the indie That's It (Blue Rock*It). Sinner Street captures Thackery and the Drivers on some powerful blues that include the backbeat heavy "Lovin' My Money," the straight ahead "Detroit Iron," and the full frontal power chords of "Never Enough." Thackery's fine picking on "Blues 'Fore Dawn" is late-night club perfect. There's some spine-tingling urban blues on Sinner Street, and I'd walk down that street any hour of any night.
