NONPOINT
Statement (MCA)

The range of sounds coming out Florida, which seems to be the primary
playground of major label A&R types these days, continues to expand with
Nonpoint, a tough metal quartet.
Relentlessly hardcore, the band still manages to come up with a twist or
two, primarily inspired by the Puerto Rican heritage of lead singer
Elias Soriano and drummer Robb Rivera. Soriano delivers a Spanish vocal
on "Orgullo," and Rivera has a way of slipping a tasty Latin lick into
the middle of a metal thrash that, well, you've just got to hear it.
Of course, one reason that Rivera can get away with it is that bassist
KB provides a rock solid bottom, allowing the drums to take occasional
flight and Andrew Goldman's guitar to soar above the fray at will.
Nonpoint is a hardworking outfit, with a sound honed in what they
proudly describe as Florida's "seediest establishments." They've taken
that act on the road in a big way, and are bound to end up near you in
not very long. Meanwhile, they've made a big Statement about the state
of metal in today's market, and it's one you'll want to hear.
