QUESTION OF HONOUR
Canopic Jars (Strange Hues)

Reviewed by Eric Steiner

Ancient Egyptians used Canopic Jars to preserve the entrails of the deceased for the afterlife, but Question of Honour have released a timeless CD that should stand the test of time. There's a mix of 80's-driven rock that echoes Jim Peterik's Survivor or Guns and Roses, thanks to brothers Hugh and David Wygmans. With help from bassist Ken Pitchford, Hugh plays lead, sings, and writes the songs, and David's behind the drums singing back up. "Laughing and Crying" and "Bitch" have the right mix of driving rock and harmonies that recall the R.E.M. of "Don't Go Back to Rockville" or the too-short-lived Gin Blossoms, and my favorite is the assertive big production of "I Want Out." Check 'em out: Canopic Jars recently landed on the top 30 lists at many regional college stations, landed a spot on a CMJ disc, and have garnered some great hometown press in their native Ottawa, Illinois. For fans of 80's-influenced rock, there's no question about Canopic Jars. Check out Question of Honor online at www.strangehues.com.
