RAQUEL BITTON
Sings Edith Piaff/In A Jazzy Mood (RB)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

Stirring the ghost of Edith Piaff, Raquel Bitton tackles the legendary chanteuse's legacy with appropriate vocal prowess and smoky delivery. There's nothing like a heartbreaking ballad offered up with the trembling Rs of the French language, and Bitton can certainly roll those babies. Nostalgia buffs are flocking to Bitton's shows as Piaff's legacy grows stronger with every year. This makes for a good career move, though where Bitton will go from here is anyone's guess. The magic dissipates when she switches to English, and surviving as a French only diva could prove a tough haul, though it is where her strength clearly lies.
